Five small habits that help

Easy wins, no tech degree required.

✓Back up the things you'd hate to lose. Photos and documents copied to a second place — an external drive or the cloud — means a crash never means heartbreak.
✓Restart before you panic. A surprising number of glitches vanish with a proper shutdown and restart. It's the genuine first thing to try.
✓Be sceptical of "urgent" messages. Real companies don't demand instant payment via gift cards or threaten you with pop-ups. When in doubt, don't click — ask us.
✓Keep updates ticking over. Those Windows and Apple updates patch security holes. Letting them install keeps you safer with almost no effort.
✓Use strong, different passwords. A password manager remembers them so you don't have to — one less thing to worry about, and far harder to hack.
